try Yell.com..yellow pages on line………better still search for a shelter and rehome / adopt a cat

2

Do a search for animal shelters in your area.

3

pet shops are not allowed to sell cats and dogs anymore but you could try your local shop windows or advertiser newspapers. you should see if you can find a rescue center near you first

4

try petfinder.com i am pretty sure you can find a cat you would want there

Why don’t you get one from an animal shelter instead? They usually have kittens as well as older cats and you know that they have been checked over by the vet, which you couldn’t be certain of in a lot of pet shops. Pet shops are obviously a business looking to make the most money so you can never be sure how well the animals have been kept or what condition their health is in. Personally I would feel a lot better giving a home to an unwanted cat and supporting the good work of a local animal shelter than giving money to a pet shop.

I found one shelter in south london:

Here’s a site with a list of shelters. There should be a few more in your area:

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Pet shops are not the best places to look for a cat. You’d would be better of adopting one from an animal rescue centre. They will have had a health check, and many of the charities will help towards the cost of spaying, neutering and in some cases, even the vaccinations. The following animal charities all cover the South London area;

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home
Celia Hammond Animal Trust
Anim-Mates
Rescued Animals in Need
Animal Samaritans

The link below will give you their telephone numbers and addresses so that you can choose one nearest to you.

Good luck.

I looked on Yell.com and there’s a few that seem to sell kittens. The rest you could just call up and ask!

As everyone has said, be careful when buying from a pet shop. Many pet shops get their kittens from ‘kitten mills’, which are quite unsavoury practices:

It might not bother you where the kittens come from, and in fact, you might feel like you are doing the kitten a favour by rescuing it. Just bear in mind that you might have future health and socialisation problems with your kitten.

Personally, I would contact your local shelter first:

It is kitten season right now, so there’s plenty around - especially in London, for some reason!

(see this page for kittens, you can see that there’s loads in London by clicking on the link that says “Rescues with Kittens” underneath the paragraph entitled ‘WANT TO ADOPT A KITTEN?’ )

Also look in your local Ad papers on the morning the papers are released.

In all honesty, it is your decision. I went to a rescue shelter and was told that because we both work all day we couldn’t rescue a cat. So we bought our first kitten from the newspaper.

We have just recently bought a kitten from a local pet shop, seeing as our shelter couldn’t help us out; but in this case, our kitten was definitely home bred, not bred from a kitten mill. There are some legitimate pet shops out there, but just be on the lookout for the dodgier ones. Saying that, they seem to have lied to us about her age - the vet guesses 7 weeks old, whilst we were told that she was 8-9 weeks.

Make sure you ask where the kitten was bred, how old it is, his/her birthday, what vaccinations it has had and if you can go and see where the kitten was bred from. By law, you are entitled to see for yourself.

Good luck finding your new kitten!

xx Emmie

You’ll be really hard pressed to find a pet shop anywhere that sells cats as it’s not something that’s done anymore, you could try local shelters or the newspaper.

9

try the pets section of - it has cats and kittens from all over (mainly) London and its where we got our cat

10

I don’t think pet shops really sell cats anymore. But the Celia Hammond Trust in Lewisham has loads and loads of cats in desperate need of homes. We got 2 cute 8 week old kittens recently, and there are so mant friendly cats and kittens there. We paid £45 for both of ours - the suggested donation. Go on the website and see who needs a home.

Think differently go to Battersea Dogs Home Cat Section there you will find cats of alll ages from kittens to much older cats.

They are clean i.e. don’t have worms, ticks, fleas and have been seen by a vet.

Go on give a cat a home.

In fact, if you go there the cat (kitten) will choose you.

Buying pets in the pet shops keeps animal suffering. Mum cats are locked in basements to keep kittens in a window, far from their mum. If you don’t care about this, you shoudn’t have animals, but robots. Or stuffed toys.

Check the link to find a great pet which doesn’t make other animals suffer
