Mud cakes decorated with flowers, perfume made with primroses and water, dried dock stalks broken up in regular lengths as cigarettes, jam jars full of mud which was ‘jam’, jars full of small stones for make believe sweets.

I didn’t have a shop. My mother worked for the airlines, so we always played Stewardess. We had the little wings, used airline tickets and everything. We had a ball!

I would put on one of my mother’s wigs. Put legs eggs in my shirt for ***** and I was off!

Edit: My mother took me to the grocery store like that one day. Here I was in all my finery, dress, mom’s wig, leggs eggs boobs, make up…the whole bit. I thought people would think I was a grown up shopping with my friend! Good Grief! I can’t believe my mother let me outside the house like that! *ROFLMAO*

We use to make believe by playing restaurant. I seem to remember raiding mom’s frig. for real food. lol We fixed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or peanut butter and crackers, cookies and served lemonade.

5

When we were kids, my sister and I made doll clothes and sold them in our imaginery shop. We set up a little stand and tried to see if anyone would buy them. No one did, but it was fun to do.

6

We dipped sticks in mud and pretended they were fudgesickles.

7

i remember going round the shops asking for “dummies” they were like empty packet of tea or boxes of chocolate that the shopkeepers put in their windows to advertise,we had quite a good stock of “goods” in our shop

8

I grated green apples along the cement curb, used the pulp for “baby cereal”. We took brown seeds from a weed in the yard for “chewing tobacco”. I made dishes from the clay soil in the yard, baked them on the warm cement pathway.

9

We built a make believe bbq pit out of bricks and old fridge shelves, and also a really awesome tunnel in a stack of old lumber. I realize this is not exactly your question, but brought back memories

10

stones in a paper bag were pretend sweets, we also used to make perfume from rose petals stuffed in a jam jar with a wee drop water stirred with a stick, we used to think it smelled lovely…yuk!!!!

We made delicious mud pies with china berries on top. Not only that we had mud sticks for french fries and mud patties for hamburgers. We also had veggies made from grass and leaves. For free you got a glass of chocolate milk made from muddy water and a long stick for a straw. Great meal for 5 cent. Poppy

I can’t believe no one sold any meat. I used mud with some water in it just to make it like hamburger. ( Of course we had to sell it quick or it dried up LOL)/And the big leaves made wonderful meat. You could put something on the leaves and make different types. We had steak, lunch meats, and anything else we could come up with. Funny thing, my grandpa was the only one to ever buy anything from us.He really loved our steaks. LOL

We used to take the seed pods from St. Augustine grass and cut them up for green beans put them in a can and pretend to cook them. We also took leaves and pretended they were bacon. The joys of childhood what imaginations we had.
