Is it worth it to trade in my 1998 Maxima back to Nissan for a 2008 Atlima Lease?
ByI have a 1998 Nissan Maxima with about 170,000 miles on it, recently I have been running into light, tire and other minor problems with the car. Also the car has a cloth interior which I have grown to despise over the years. Is it worth it to trade my car in back to Nissan for a new Altima lease. Do you think I will regret paying monthly in the future?

Can I trade in and get cash back when doing a lease deal? I am thinking about trading in my 2003 Honda Element and leasing a new vehicle (make unknown) - I owe less than 1k on the Honda. Blue Book Value is around 9-13 K. Say the dealer is willing to give 10k. What happens to the excess cash if I...

You will get more money for the car if you sell it to a private party and then put the money down on the new one, Beware the Nissan have had a problem in the past with there engine using oil every thousand miles or so, this is not normal. Several of my customers have had new engine put in after a few thousand miles because of oil use (smog problems). God Bless

DO NOT LEASE A CAR. Unless you are rich and don’t mind renting a car for a few years because you want a new one then it is a money pit. Trade it in and get a used Maxima(like an 04 or something). You’ll get it cheaper than the Altima lease.

You won’t get much for your old car and many dealers won’t want it as a trade, so you should sell it yourself. You’ll make more money anyway.
As to leasing a new Altima, make sure you understand how leasing works and if it’s right for you before you make your decision. Many people, such as a previous answerer, advise against leasing but this is based on their own lack of knowledge about how leasing works. Leasing works very well for some people, including me, but don’t do it if you aren’t willing to learn about it. It’s too easy to make mistakes. Here’s a web site that might help:
