Can you get an apartment with a car repossession on your credit?

I anticipated getting an apartment in Cedar Hill, Texas (Dallas area) and put down a security deposit with the landlord. Well, my job offer fell through hence I do not need to move. The landlord is refusing to return my money, and has not stated a reason why. I have not signed a lease, and i did not sign any security deposit contracts stating it was non-refundable. The apartment was held for 60 days but I have not seen anything that would give the landlord the legal right to keep my money. Please help!

can i get my deposit back if i signed the lease but my co signer did not?

I was getting a apartment and needed a co signer and so my boyfriend said he would do it do he filled out an application and we paid a 800.00 deposit
i went in and signed my part of the lease but he did not! now something has came up and i cant move in. The apartment is telling me i cant have my deposit back is this true?
